Antutu has finally released its March 2020 most powerful mid-range smartphones list. Based on their benchmarking tests, MediaTek Dimensity 1000L is significantly better than Samsung Exynos 980 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G. Using OPPO Reno3 5G, the device garnered 407,340 overall points while the Vivo X30 (Exynos 980) and Redmi K30 5G(SD 765G) scored 326,822 and 324,717, respectively. Sitting at the top 5 is HiSilicon Kirin 810 in the Honor 9X Pro with 310,531 points.

The consensus is that MediaTek chipsets are inferior to the competition. But ever since the re-birth of the company last year, it has been making strides as of recent. The Dimensity 1000L is pitted against affordable 5G competitors. And the recent Antutu benchmark shows that there should be no problem when it comes to performance. For starters, performance isn’t the entire problem of MediaTek. It’s efficiency. Their chipsets perform well until it heats up. Overheating that leads to performance throttling is the company’s common problem. Hopefully, that changes when we get to test out a Dimensity 1000L-based phone like the Reno3 5G. But as much as we want to laud MediaTek’s efforts, its the Kirin 820 that we’re not seeing in this list. It’s a flagship-level chipset that narrowly beats Snapdragon 855 and Kirin 980.
