
Samsung and Sony’s rivalry continues in this review comparison, as the Xperia Z5 Compact (priced at around Php 29,990) takes on Samsung’s mid-ranger, the Galaxy A8 (priced at Php 24,990). Lets check out their specs, features and price and decide which device fits you better.
The Galaxy A8’s overall design compared to the Xperia Z5 Compact has its advantages and disadvantages, one in which is the premium metal material on the A8, while utility and portability is on the Xperia Z5 Compact’s side. Both have fingerprint scanning feature, with the Xperia Z5 Compact’s scanner conveniently located on the side of the device, while the A8 is on the menu button.
Choose the device that fits you? Do you want a more classier and premium looking device, then the A8 is a good choice, however if portability and handling is what you’re looking for, then the Xperia Z5 Compact fits your interest well.

The Galaxy A8 has a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, while the smaller Xperia Z5 Compact has a 4.6-inch 720p HD display. The A8’s OLED tech by far played a major role in establishing a bright and punchy display, however, despite being relatively smaller, the Xperia Z5 Compact’s display was able to par up with the A8’s easily, though the 5.7-inch display truly brings out the beauty of its resolution and display.

The Xperia Z5 Compact has a 23MP rear shooter, with phase detection feature and 5.1MP selfie shooter, while the Galaxy A8 carries a 16MP rear shooter and 5MP selfie shooter. In still image shooting , Galaxy A8 was seen to be really responsive in term of shade, enabling a bright output, despite being under daylight, while the Z5 Compact delivers a pretty colour accurate and detail-wise outputs.

The Galaxy A8 provided colour aggressive outputs, bright ones at that, while the Xperia Z5 Compact’s were clear as day. For night shooting, it seems that Z5 Compact was just triumphant, with its clearer and reduced noise on its outputs. Brightness still stood out for Selfie outputs on the A8, with a brighter output at that, while the Xperia Z5 Compact was a tidbit more focused on the crispness of the image.

The Xperia Z5 Compact shoots 4K UHD video, while the Galaxy A8 shoots 1080p videos, which was a bit far, on the Xperia Z5 Compact’s 4K UHD video output.

The Galaxy A8 carries a Snapdragon 615 chip on its helm, while the Xperia Z5 Compact has a Snapdragon 810 chip to back it up. Both devices have the same RAM and ROM capacity. For benchmark scores, the Xperia Z5 Compact’s more up-to-date system provided excellent ratings, in comparison to the Galaxy A8s.

The Galaxy A8 has a 3050mAh battery capacity, while the Xperia Z5 Compact has a smaller 2700mAh battery capacity. On the standard battery test initiated on both device, the Galaxy A8 provided a 16-hour and 39-minute battery longevity period, while the Xperia Z5 Compact was able to hang on for 11 hours and 6 minutes.

The Galaxy A8 and Xperia Z5 Compact carried a good speakers overall, however, quality and volume-wise, the Xperia Z5 Compact was just better all in all. The sound outputs of the A8 was okay, but, quality was a bit different, when compared to the Xperia Z5 Compact. Stereo speakers on Xperia Z5 Compact just seem to have the upper hand, against the mono speaker of the A8.

Price-wise the Xperia Z5 Compact, which is priced at Php 29,990 is a bit more hefty to the Php 24,990 A8, however, with the performance power and ability to par up with a device that is bigger than it, the Xperia Z5 Compact surely deserves that little buck. However, the Galaxy A8 is no pushover, it has proven time and time again that it can par up with the latest flagships, so its not much of brainer, why the A8 is doing good in the market.
