So far, at least in the Philippines, OPPO’s popular mid-range phone lineup consists of Reno5, Reno5 Pro, and Reno5 Pro+. However, in Japan, the company is adding a new member to the family called Reno5 A. Yes, it’s also a 5G phone, but with a neat trick under its sleeve — it can survive underwater.
The Reno5 A 5G caters to the Japanese market, wherein consumer needs include devices surviving in water. In this case, despite the all-plastic build, the device comes equipped with an official IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. For the rest of the specs, you’re looking at a good midrange performer in 2021.
OPPO Reno5 A features a 6.5″ LTPS LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sample rate. The company claims it can go up to 550 nits while outputting 16M colors, enough to support 100% NTSC and 96% DCI-P3 color gamuts.
Powering the phone is Snapdragon 765G from last year, paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. But, keeping the phone alive is a 4000mAh battery with an 18W fast charger. Camera-wise, Reno5 A offers a 64MP snapper with 8MP ultrawide and a pair of 2MP sensors for monochrome and macro. A 16MP selfie camera commands the front, though.
OPPO has yet to release information about the price and release date in Japan of Reno5 A, but reports suggest that it could come via SoftBank and unlocked models.
