After several leaks and rumors, HMD Global has finally revealed the Nokia 5.4 budget device. Aimed at users who value build and services, the 5.4 will become available starting December in Dusk and Polar Night colors for €189(~Php11,000). Although the initial release is limited to several markets, HMD confirmed that Asian regions, including the Philippines, will get their chance as soon as possible.
According to initial leaks, HMD basically confirmed Nokia 5.4 specs. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 662, paired with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. There are four cameras on the back, headed by a 48MP f1.8 Sony sensor and a 5MP ultrawide. Interestingly, the main sensor supports up to 4K video recording, which is rare for an SD 662 device. But unlike the rumors, the 16MP selfie camera gets housed in a pinhole cutout instead of a notch. The cameras carry nearly all the modes that can be found on the Nokia 8.3, such as Portrait and Night Modes.
HMD is boasting a 4000mAh battery that can charge up to 10W via USB-C. Due to the power-efficient chip and the fact that the IPS LCD is using an HD+ resolution, the balanced power consumption can get you up to two days worth of battery life. More on the display, it reaches 400 nits typical, and the diagonal screen size is 6.39″, which is on the small side by today’s standards. However, HMD made it clear that the extended display makes the Nokia 5.4 feel as if it’s a bigger phone while keeping it small-hand friendly.
Even with the elegant appearance, Nokia 5.4 is using all-polycarbonate material for the frame and back panel. Though not as durable as glass when it comes to scratches and bumps, it does make the device relatively thin and light.
Much like all Nokia devices, Nokia 5.4 is guaranteed to receive two major software upgrades. The catch — the device comes with Android 10 already, with Android 11 ready for download out of the box. That means the device will only support up to Android 12.
