Huawei is Working on Virtual Assistant That Can Read Human Emotions

The Chinese tech giant is working on a great advancement in technology. Huawei’s objective is to develop a smarter virtual assistant that can read its user’s emotions. They’re planning to give humanness to the response base on the tone of user’s voice whether it is happy, sad, angry etc.

Just like Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, Amazon’s Alexa, and Samsung’s Bixby, this voice-powered AI can do tasks and interact with the user but not in a robotic manner.

This was introduced to us by Huawei’s vice president of software engineering, Felix Zhang. He stated that he wanted to provide emotional interactions

Gartner, a research firm reported that it had revealed that emotion AI will be used to analyze data points from people’s mood, voice intonation, and behavioral patterns.

Huawei’s idea of this project is to keep the conversation going as long as the person does not feel alone. Sounds familiar? Yes, it’s the movie ‘Her’.

This movie is about a guy that falls in love with Samantha, his artificial virtual assistant which learns to adapt his emotional needs.

Felix Zhang said that this idea of AI is like a dream for all the engineers, however, to achieve this they must be accurate in reading human emotions.
