On top of the list would be the Galaxy Z Flip 5 which is one of the pioneer brands that started the modern take of flip phones. This would be the best overall choice on this list since it guarantees you a durable device. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 offers a 3.4″ AMOLED flex window on its front which is surprisingly more significant than the Z Flip 4 last year. It acts like a smartwatch display that gives you access to different widgets that are available to you. On the flip side, you get a 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED display with all the features you need. A 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, a 1750 peak brightness, and an FHD+ resolution. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip which is then paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. You also get a dual 12MP camera for both wide and ultrawide and a 10MP selfie shooter.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a starting price of Php 64,990 for the base 256GB and Php 71,990 for the 512GB config.

Oppo Find N2 Flip

Oppo also put out their flip phone which is the OPPO Find N2 Flip. This offers a more sturdy and bulky build compared to the Galaxy Z Flip. Find N2 Flip offers a 3.26″ cover screen which was the biggest in its category when it was released. Before the Z Flip upgraded their cover screen to a 3.4″ the Z Flip 4 only carried a small 1.9″. Despite the bigger cover display, the swipeable window of the Find N2 Flip is pretty much limited to the camera, weather, calendar, timer, and messages. In terms of its display on the flip side, it boasts a 6.8″ LTPO AMOLED paired with 120Hz refresh rate and carries HDR10+ support and a peak brightness of 1600nits. As for its cameras, it carries a 50MP main shooter, an 8MP ultrawide for its rear, and a 32MP selfie on the front. Comparing it to the price of the Galaxy Z Flip, this is more affordable.

The OPPO Find N2 Flip is priced at Php49,999 for 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Huawei P50 Pocket

HUAWEI P50 POCKET

Third is the Huawei P50 Pocket, its design, and build are pretty much similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 with a bit distinct features. One of that distinct features is its 1.04″ circular cover display that carries a 340×340 resolution. It’s like having a smartphone that has a smartwatch display on its back. That circular display shows your notifications and can act as your viewfinder for selfies using the primary shooter. For its display, you get a 6.9″ Foldable OLED which is then paired with a 120Hz refresh rate, however, it doesn’t have HDR10+ support. As for its cameras, it packs a triple camera setup with a 40MP main, 13MP ultrawide, and 32MP wide. The P50 Pocket is not Huawei’s first folding smartphone although it is their first to sport a clamshell design.

The Huawei P50 Pocket starting price is Php69,999 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Moto Razr 5G

RAZR

When Motorola introduced the Razr in 2004, it completely changed the mobile phone market. The stylish clamshell garnered a devoted following and almost instant notoriety up until the release of Apple’s iPhone and a slew of competing smartphones. Just like the OPPO Find N2, the Moto Razr 5G packs a solid and sturdy build. Despite its build, its weight wasn’t that heavy and it also feels comfortable to the hand. As for its cover display, it carries a 2.7″ G-OLED display with 600×800 resolution while its display on the flip side boasts a 6.2″ P-OLED display. It has a single 48MP rear camera and a 20MP selfie shooter. It also runs on a Snapdragon 765G chip that is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The Moto Razr 5G was priced at Php72,990 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Vivo X Flip

VIVO X FLIP

The vivo X Flip is vivo’s first clamshell-designed smartphone. It packs a 3.0″ cover display its bezels fully extended on the entire back of the device horizontally. We only have a handful of features that we can use on this cover screen, unlike the Moto Razr you can open pretty much every application on your device. On the flip side, it boasts a 6.74″FHD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a bunch of features like support for 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 1B colors. In terms of its cameras, it packs a 50MP main shooter, 12MP ultrawide, and a 32MP selfie shooter. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and is paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

As of writing, the vivo X Flip doesn’t have an official price yet here in the Philippines, and they haven’t indicated if they are planning to release the vivo X Flip here.

If you are loving the looks of clamshell-designed smartphones then this list would help you choose which is the best for you.
