Electric Bikes Reduce Food Delivery Drivers’ Carbon Footprint

Max’s Group Inc. (MGI) has given delivery riders 30 pedal-assist electric bikes to help them make daily deliveries in the following cities:

  • Ortigas
  • San Juan
  • EDSA
  • Makati
  • Taguig
  • Alabang

MGI said that this is part of their plan to look for more environmentally friendly options and help their food delivery workers deal with the growing number of orders.

According to a study done by Rakuten Insight in April 2023, one in five Filipino consumers use apps like foodpanda and grab food to order food once or twice a week.

Statista Digital Market Insights found that 11.78 million Filipinos used online meal delivery services in 2022.

The greater need for delivery services also means that more fossil fuels are being used.

In the transportation industry, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions went up by 3.38 million tons, or 12%, from 2020 to 2021, according to the Department of Energy.

Using e-bikes as an alternative is a “sure win” for MGI in terms of lowering its carbon footprint.
