This week, an official in the US said that the app should be banne in the US. The policy applies to “the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland,” according to TikTok.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Elaine Fox, the platform’s head of privacy for Europe, said that a global team helped keep the user experience “consistent, enjoyable, and safe.”

ByteDance, which owns TikTok, has denied over and over that the Chinese government runs it. Authorities in the UK, EU and US are looking very closely at the app. After MPs voiced concerns about data sharing with China, the UK Parliament canceled its TikTok account in August.

Senior MPs and peers wanted the account disabled until TikTok provided “credible assurances” that Beijing would not receive data.

The Irish Data Protection Commission, its EU regulator, probed two privacy issues with the app. The watchdog is investigating TikTok’s processing of children’s data and whether it has followed EU data transfer laws to China.

In 2020, a US national security tribunal ordered ByteDance to sell its American unit over worries that Chinese authorities could access user data. TikTok moved US customers’ data to Oracle’s Austin, Texas servers in June.

The app denied last month that a China-based ByteDance team planned to use the software to track US people. It also rejected “targeting” the US government, activists, public figures, or journalists.
