The ₱488 billion Metro Manila Subway is now being built. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the groundbreaking ceremony for two stations last October 3, 2022.
The 33-kilometer subway will cut travel time between Valenzuela and Bicutan to 35 minutes, and it will be able to carry at least 519,000 people daily.
Also, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said that building the first underground railway in the Philippines and a 30.37-hectare train depot in Valenzuela will create 18,000 jobs over the next six years.

Marcos acknowledged that the subway project would cause some problems, but he urged the public to be “optimistic” that the short-term problems would be worth it in the long run.
In June, former President Rodrigo Duterte helped show off the lowering of a tunnel-boring machine. This was the first step in building the country’s first subway, which will be in Metro Manila.
In Valenzuela City, the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Arthur Tugade, and the Japanese Ambassador, Kazuhiko Koshikawa, saw the drilling machine go down.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency gave the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) a $2.66 billion loan.
