Camotes Islands Gets PLDT Fiber Internet Service

The islands of Bantayan and Camotes in Cebu, which were once considered hard-to-reach and hard-to-serve with internet access, will now get a taste of fast and dependable access to the internet thanks to PLDT’s effort to connect them to the company’s fiber-optic network.

Through the project implementation, Bantayan Island could establish a link with Daanbantayan. This is another location within the province of Cebu and one of its gateways to Luzon.

A submarine cable also landed in Baranggay Kabac earlier this year, which provided the island with a direct connection to Bacolod City as of May.

PLDT fibers up Bantayan and Camotes islands, fortifies Visayas connectivity with submarine links

After Ormoc and Mandaue City were fused on June 19, Camotes Island followed suit and was also interconnected.

In the region, PLDT’s fiber-optic network now reaches some of the islands that were previously only accessible by boat, paving the way for Smart’s subsidiary company to leverage its mobile services, whether 4G/LTE or 5G, in the area.

Indeed, part of the initiative is to fortify the strong connection between two of Cebu’s significant atolls. Still, it also enhances the fiber links and boosts the network’s resilience to ensure PLDT’s customers remain connected to the internet.
