Should you buy the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite?

Launched as part of Xiaomi’s Mi 8 series is the mid ranged Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, also known as Mi 8 Youth in some countries. As we get our hands on the device, we put up together our hands-on and first impressions to give you some insights before buying the mid-ranged price device.

Design and Display

First up is the design, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite looks classy with its classy gradient design on the back protected by a 2.5D glass. It may seem familiar cause the gradient design is similar to some smartphones like the Huawei Nova 3i, P20, Oppo F9, R17 Pro and the Vivo V11.

However, the downside is that it is prone to fingerprint smudges which are also easily seen when not placed in a case. The Mi 8 Lite sports a 6.26-inch 19:9 display with 2280 x 1080 resolution with a metal frame design on the front.

Up top is a notch which is also seen on the Mi 8 Pro but a tad smaller. At the back is its fingerprint scanner along with its dual camera setup arranged horizontally. It has a USB Type-C port and speaker below its trunk. At the left side is its hybrid sim tray and on its right is the power button and volume rockers.

Inclusions

The smartphone comes with a pink to purple gradient designed box with a big Eight Lite on it. Upon opening, you get a USB-C cable, a 5W power adapter, and a SIM ejector tool. You also get a user manual like all other smartphones. Included as well inside is a free case but it’s a soft silicone case so it doesn’t protect the device that much.

Unfortunately, the Mi 8 Lite doesn’t have any headphone jack but it still has a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter included inside the box. No free headphones, again same as other Xiaomi devices.

Specs and Camera

Under the hood, is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. The Mi 8 Lite comes in options of a 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage. It comes with Android Oreo and MIUI out of the box. It is also powered by a 3,350mAh battery with Quick charge 3.0 technology. In terms of speed, overall browsing and normal usage is fast and we didn’t encounter any lags while playing games or music.
