Tips on Fixing Firefox Closing Automatically on Mac

While Safari is the default browser on Mac, some prefer Firefox as their go-to alternative for exploring the internet. You can also import your Safari bookmarks to Firefox, so you don’t have to switch browsers to seek your saved web pages.

Some users are encountering problems in which their Firefox suddenly shuts off and this can cause frustration since it disruptions your workflow. Thus, if you are having the same problem, this piece will discuss some effective fixes to stop Firefox from shutting down automatically on Mac.

Hardware Acceleration

Hardware Acceleration allows Firefox to utilize your Mac’s resources for graphic-intensive activities, including video streaming on platforms like YouTube. Hardware Acceleration in Firefox on your Mac should be enabled since this might be one of the reasons your Firefox keeps on shutting down.

Relaunch Firefox

This is what we always do on all applications or even devices that encounter a problem, we restart the app. Once your Hardware acceleration is turned on, force quit the Firefox app then relaunch it for a fresh start.

Remove Faulty Firefox Extensions

Your web browser can benefit from additional functions thanks to extensions. It’s likely that one or more of the Firefox extensions you’ve installed on your Mac have gone out of date or have a few flaws that are causing the browser to close on its own. We suggest trying to uninstall your extensions one by one to check if that addresses the problem.

Troubleshooting Mode

To check for and resolve such problems, Firefox provides a dedicated Troubleshooting Mode or Safe Mode. Use it to check what kinds of errors or problems that are causing this automatic shutdown.

Clear your Browser Cache

You may also consider emptying the Browser cache and cookies if you are still having the issue. The cache and cookies of your browser keep all the information and settings that help in improving your overall browsing experience. On the other hand, you might try deleting the cache and cookies if Firefox on your Mac keeps shutting down automatically. Keep in mind that once you’ve finished this step, you’ll need to log in to all of your favorite websites again.

Update or Reinstall your Firefox

The last solution would be to update your firefox. Go to your firefox settings and check for updates. If there is no update available or it is already updated but still you encounter the same problem. Then your last option is to reinstall Firefox itself.
