Google has informed users that Google Assistant on Android mobile devices will be discontinued and replaced by Gemini.
According to the notice, Google will begin removing access to Google Assistant on supported Android phones, tablets, and paired devices from September 4. The rollout may take several weeks to reach all users.
Once the change is applied, users will no longer be able to use or switch back to Google Assistant on their mobile devices.
On eligible devices, Gemini will become the default assistant when users say “Hey Google” or press and hold the power button.
The change also affects some devices connected to Android phones, including Wear OS smartwatches, compatible headphones and earbuds, and Android Auto projected from a mobile device.
On the other hand, built-in Google Assistant in supported cars will continue to work beyond September 4, 2026.
Google added that the update applies only to Android mobile devices and their accessories.
Google Assistant on other devices, such as Google Home speakers, smart displays, and Google TV devices, is not affected by this change.
