Andanar said in a radio interview last Monday, “For the 21st Cabinet meeting and first Cabinet meeting this year, DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) acting Secretary Rio mentioned that two firms are interested so far to become the third player in our telecommunications industry,” Then he added, “first, China Telecom and the consortium that has yet to be announced and second in the list is the PT&T group and its partner a Korean telecom company.”

Also, Andanar also stated that he hopes the operations of the third telco player could start immediately.”Talagang inaapura po iyan ng DICT para maging competitive po ang ating telecoms industry,” he said.

Duterte already ordered agencies to approve applications and licenses of the firms who are interested to join the telco industry in the country, for them to begin their operations as early as Q1 2018.
