Get ready for some tech excitement as the Huawei P70 series is on the horizon, set to feature a new Kirin 9010 chipset.

According to Smart Pikachu from Weibo, the official announcement is still pending.

If you remember, the Kirin 9010, was first mentioned three years ago, and was rumored to be a 3nm chip, likely from TSMC. However, recent trade restrictions on Huawei have thrown a curveball into this plan. While Huawei shipped laptops with Kirin 9006C chips from TSMC recently, it turns out to be old stock. SMIC, currently using a 7nm process for Kirin 9000s, is not as powerful as TSMC’s 5nm node.

There’s speculation that SMIC might be working on a 3nm node, but that’s a few years away. Now, is the Kirin 9010 truly a 3nm chip, or is Huawei cleverly repurposing the name?

Considering the trade restrictions, Huawei might have found a workaround. They secured a trademark for the name in 2021, intending to start production in 2022.

Excitingly, the P70 series is expected to reintroduce 5G connectivity. Rumors suggest that the P70 Art will feature a remarkable ultra-wide camera with a 1-inch sensor and a top-notch 1G6P lens. Huawei is also said to be developing its own sensors, slated to debut with the P70 series in March. Sounds pretty exciting, right?
