List of Customizable Features on Apple iOS 16 Lockscreen

With iOS 16, Apple completely redesigned the Lock Screen and included a ton of personalization options so you can make it truly yours. You can select widgets, change the color scheme, and add emojis, images, or built-in wallpapers. This manual explains Apple’s modification to the iPhone’s Lock Screen in iOS 16.

Lock Screen Modification

This is probably the most awaited of all. Everyone is excited to customize their lock screen and to try out the new themes and clock fonts. There are also excellent advanced features. 

Editing a Lock Screen in iOS 16 is similar to editing a widget or home screen, if you’re familiar with those interfaces, by unlocking your iPhone using Face ID or Touch ID. If not, you can swipe down if you’re not already.

Gently do long press the lock screen, and voila! You can access all the controls to play with.

Wallpaper Option

When making a new Lock Screen or modifying an existing one, tapping the “+” button will take you to the wallpaper interface, where you may select the wallpaper you wish to use.

Apple has categorized the numerous wallpapers into sections from which you may choose at the top of the interface or by swiping down to see more choices. Even the most popular wallpaper alternatives are included in the “Featured” area, which you may wish to consider employing.

People

As the category name suggests, tapping on the “People” option will display pictures of people you’ve taken, which will look great when used with the new depth effect that the Lock Screen allows. In some shots, the time will appear beneath the subject or object to give the picture a layered appearance, similar to how photos were taken in Portrait mode on the Apple Watch appear.

You can see how a person will seem with the temporal depth effect once you decide who to feature on your Lock Screen. Depending on the photo you’re using, you can leave the image natural or add a Studio, Black and White, or custom Color Backdrop.

By tapping on the three dots at the bottom, you can turn off the perspective zoom and the depth effect if you don’t like it.

Image Shuffle

Any photos can be used as a lock screen in the Photos category. Apple chooses featured images that complement the layered time effect or that the iPhone feels would look especially nice as wallpaper. A black and white option can be added to photos.

Instead, you can select the Photo Shuffle function if you wish to use multiple photos. You may have the photographs on your iPhone’s Lock Screen alternate with Photo Shuffle. Apple offers featured images in the People, Pets, Nature, and Urban categories, or you can manually choose every image you want to add.

You can exclude certain people from the People category or deselect any classes with the Featured customization option. If you select the manual option, you are free to choose any number of photos.

If a photo you don’t like pops up, you may long press it, pick Edit, and then choose the “Don’t Feature Photo” option. Snapshots can be configured to change on tap, on wake, hourly, or daily.

Emoji

Using the Emoji wallpaper option, you can choose up to six of your favorite emoji to create a tiled backdrop with those emojis. For a more artistic background, some emojis will be displayed more prominent and some smaller. However, this may be altered.

Apple offers three distinct grid sizes, each with a different emoji size: small, medium, and large. Spirals or rings are additional customizing options.

You can select the color of the background behind the emoji by tapping on the three dots and selecting from a color wheel or a preselected color.

Weather

Similar to what you see in the Weather app, the Weather Lock Screen option displays the current weather in your location. If it’s cloudy, there are clouds because it depicts live weather, and you’ll see the rain animation if it’s raining.

The Weather Lock Screen cannot be customize and might not be available on older devices that can’t handle the animation.

Astronomy

Like the weather lock screen, the astronomy lock screen changes throughout the day depending on the time and location. There are many choices, one of which is the Earth and Earth Detail, which provides a closer look.

You can also choose Solar System, Moon, or Moon Detail. The Astronomy Watch Face in watchOS 9 and the Astronomy Lock Screen are virtually identical, and the wallpaper itself cannot be customize. Just like the Weather Lock Screen.

Color

The Color Lock Screen wallpaper lets you choose a simple backdrop color, yet it will incorporate a slight gradient that may look good depending on the color you’ve selected for the time.

You can choose any color from the Grid, Spectrum, and Slider options or one of Apple’s pre-set colors and modify the hue. Any selected color can be use to change the opacity.

Collections

You can select a collection of Apple-designed wallpapers for your Lock Screen. Each wallpaper made by Apple is distinctively style for the iOS 16 Lock Screen and interacts with the time in entertaining ways.

The Collection wallpapers feature distinctive hues that go well with specific Apple Watch faces, like Pride and Unity, but other iOS 16-only patterns are available. A few wallpapers are slightly dynamic, and several may be change with various color options, including the bokeh and the rainbow stripe.

The Pride face animates when switching between the Lock Screen and the Home Screen, while the Bokeh face has dots that move around.

Customized Time

Everything else on the Lock Screen, including the typeface and color of the time that is displaye. Can be change after selecting a Lock Screen wallpaper. To modify the design of any Lock Screen wallpaper, tap Customize, then tap the box that appears.

You have a variety of fonts and color options to choose from, depending on the Lock Screen. Most Lock Screens allow for any hue, although a handful of the Apple-designed options have fewer color selections.

You can select from a selection of colors, as with other color selections, or use the color wheel to choose whatever color you like.

After deciding on your favorite look for the moment, hit the “x” to complete the customization of your Lock Screen.

Shades and Fashions

You can alter the color of any Photo background using the modification options. Swipe left or right through the various options once you’ve entered the customization page to modify the style.

The most common options for shots are black and white or natural. But for pictures of people, you may also choose studio lighting. Which draws attention to the subject and blurs the background, or a colorful backdrop, whose hue can be change.
