Google wants to add eSIM transfer to Android phones in 2023 to ease phone switching. Transferring an eSIM card from one device to another needs the user to unregister and reactivate it on the new device, which can be tedious. The planned eSIM transfer feature will allow users to move their accounts without contacting their cell carrier.

Google says Deutsche Telekom was one of the first Android networks to support the eSIM movement. After months of leaks and beta tests, the company revealed the ability to change real SIM cards to eSIM and transfer tools.
Apple has removed physical SIM cards from its newest iPhone series in the US, so the industry is moving to eSIM. Android users will find switching phones easier with Google’s eSIM transfer feature, and more smartphone makers will likely follow suit.
Google also announced eSIM agreements to spread Android’s newest software updates. Vodafone is creating the Messages app, the default texting service on eligible Android phones to spread RCS, and Google is simplifying RCS branding.
Google showed Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, and Xiaomi smartphones that use Android features like Nearby Share and digital car keys. The firm also promised Fast Pair for Chromebooks and a new set of Android features starting today.
Google’s MWC event also highlighted its partners’ pledges to more extended Android OS changes and security updates. At MWC 2023, Xiaomi announced three OS upgrades for its new flagship phones and five security patches, while Samsung offers four years of main OS changes and five years of security fixes.
