World’s first sodium-ion power bank!

According to Elecom, sodium is easier to manufacture and more abundant than lithium, which requires extensive mining that pollutes the land and water. Furthermore, sodium is safer to release back into the environment than lithium, which is highly toxic.

Lithium-ion batteries also do not function well in extremely cold conditions, such as -35° C (-31° F), whereas sodium-ion batteries do. Sodium-ion batteries are also more resilient against thermal runaway fires, which firefighters warn lithium battery users about.

Additionally, compared to normal lithium-ion batteries, which have a service life of 500 cycles, sodium-ion batteries have a service life of 5,000 cycles.

The power bank, which has a model number DE-C55L-9000, packs a 9,000mAh capacity with 45W fast charging for the USB-C PD port and 18W charging for the USB-A port. It is available in Black and Light Gray colorways.

Recharging the power bank takes approximately two hours and supports up to 30W of fast charging in its input port.

Other features include low current mode for small electronic devices with low charging currents like earphones, and automatic charging which automatically detects the devices that are connected and charges them as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The power bank weighs 350 grams and measures 87 x 31 x 106 mm. Sodium-based batteries have lower energy density, making them thicker and heavier as compared to lithium.
