Apple Reportedly Working on Google Cast Support for iOS 27

Apple is reportedly working on adding support for third-party wireless streaming protocols in iOS 27.

According to a report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the update could allow iPhone users to use alternatives to Apple’s AirPlay, including Google Cast, directly at the system level.

Users may also be able to set a third-party casting option as the default for streaming content from their iPhone to supported TVs and speakers.

Currently, AirPlay is the only built-in wireless streaming protocol on iOS devices.

The reported change is said to be connected to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires large tech companies to improve interoperability and open parts of their platforms to competitors.

It is still unclear whether the feature will only be available in the EU or if Apple will roll it out globally. The company has not officially announced the feature yet.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 during its annual developer event on June 8, 2026.
