Apple has updated Xcode 26.3 to support AI coding agents.
The update allows Xcode to work with Claude Agent from Anthropic and Codex from OpenAI.
Unlike basic AI chat tools, these agents can handle tasks on their own by following a developer’s goal and working through multiple steps.
The update builds on earlier AI features in Xcode that helped write and edit Swift code. With version 26.3, AI agents now have deeper access to Xcode’s tools and workflows.
Developers need to connect their own Claude or OpenAI accounts to Xcode using an API key. Apple also said Xcode supports an open standard, so other AI agents may be supported in the future.
Xcode 26.3 is available now as a release candidate for Apple Developer Program members. It will be released later on the App Store.
Xcode is Apple’s main app development tool for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
