The new update to YouTube Music is more than just a small change; it shows that it was made with the user in mind. With the “Play All” button added to different carousels on the Home feed, users can now listen to their favorite songs in a more efficient and easy way.
Before, the site had two main types of carousels that mostly showed albums, playlists, and single songs. Every four songs, you had to swipe to move through the 20 or so songs, and if you wanted to play a series of your favorite songs, you had to manually add each song to the queue.
Now, the “Play All” feature makes the process easier and lets a user make a whole queue with a single tap.
This small change fits in with a larger trend in tech to make displays easier to use. The fact that the long listening carousel (30+ minute tracks) is left out of this feature shows that YouTube is aware of what its users want.
But the update does make it harder to see for non-Premium users because the bottom bar now has space for five things, which is a design choice that could get people talking. The “Play All” feature is a change from just giving users material to making sure their experience is smooth and easy to understand.
