Motorola’s “Satellite Link” Hotspot Allows Message Sending via Outer Space

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link is an impressive device that brings the useful Emergency SOS via satellite feature of the iPhone 14 to a broader range of users, regardless of their smartphone model. Now, customers in the United States can finally get their hands on it.

Initially announced in February, the Motorola Defy Satellite Link goes beyond just offering emergency coverage. It is a satellite messaging hotspot that connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth, enabling two-way satellite messaging and location sharing. This means you can stay connected with friends and family even in areas with limited or no cellular coverage. The best part is that only one person needs to have the satellite-capable device for the entire system to work.

The messaging service provided by Motorola functions similarly to SMS. You compose a message using the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app on your phone, and the device establishes a connection with the relevant satellites to transmit it to the recipient over their cellular or Wi-Fi network.

The recipient receives the message as a regular SMS. While recipients don’t need the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app to receive messages, they must download it if they want to respond.

In summary, the Motorola Defy Satellite Link offers an accessible way to communicate via satellite, allowing users to stay connected in areas with limited cell coverage.
