According to Wired, hundreds of thousands of users removed their ad blockers in October 2023. Interestingly, there’s a surge in people installing alternative ad-blocking solutions that YouTube can’t easily detect.
Krzysztof Modras from Ghostery, a well-known ad blocker on Chrome’s extension store, reported a significant increase in both installations and removals over the past month. YouTube’s recent actions against ad blockers have sent users on a quest for more effective solutions. Some are even exploring alternatives like Newpipe and PureTuber apps, a YouTube-like platform that allows ad-free video playback from the site.
Industry experts, including Modras, caution that YouTube’s crackdown might trigger the development of more intricate ad-blocking methods. These advanced tactics could unintentionally open up security vulnerabilities.
