Microsoft’s latest Surface Laptop is causing a stir and for good reason. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processor, and early benchmark results suggest it might be giving Apple’s M2 chip a run for its money.
The benchmark tests, performed by hardware enthusiast HXL was shared on X (formerly Twitter), used CPU-Z on the Surface Laptop 7 with the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 SoC. Since CPU-Z isn’t available on MacBooks, HXL booted a virtual Windows 11 to run the test, acknowledging that virtual machines can sometimes impact performance.
According to the results, the Surface Laptop 7 scored significantly higher in multi-threaded performance, achieving 7,923.5 points compared to the M2’s 3,822.3 points in the virtual machine.
However, keep in mind that the M2 had a slight edge in single-threaded performance, scoring 749.5 points compared to the Surface Laptop’s 686.0 points.
