Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza revealed during a press conference that the LTO has resolved the plastic card shortage issue and can now swiftly process license renewals.

Due to the previous plastic card shortage, the LTO had to issue paper licenses. However, now holders of these paper licenses can conveniently exchange them for plastic card copies at the LTO branch where they initially applied, simply by presenting their receipts.

To streamline the renewal process and avoid long queues, the LTO has implemented staggered deadlines for licenses that expired in the months following April 2023. Mendoza emphasized that individuals applying for a new driver’s license can expect to receive it immediately at LTO offices.

Mendoza highlighted the LTO’s commitment to reducing backlogs and ensuring efficiency in the licensing process. Secretary Jaime Bautista’s focus is on providing timely driver’s licenses and license plates to individuals purchasing vehicles.

The LTO aims to clear the 2.4 million backlog in pending licenses by March 2024 and resolve the backlog in vehicle plates by 2025.
