DOST announced that 120,000 COVID-19 testing kits developed by scientists of the University of the Philippines (UP) will be ready to mass-produce on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
DOST Secretary Dela Peña said that “A certain number of testing kits that can do up to 26,000 tests will be prioritized by the DOST for field implementation and distribution”.
The implementation for the 26,000 test kits will be done from April 4 to 25 and the remaining 94,000 testing kits will be sold commercially by Manila HealthTek at around P1,300 per kit. Much cheaper compared to the units currently being used in hospitals.
