DICT Aims to Build 23,100 Free Wi-Fi sites by 2021

Amidst the pandemic, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is confident that its Wi-Fi for All Project sites will multiply by next year. As reported, over 4,000 sites are operating already, with 10 percent allotted to government and rural health sectors. In 2021, around 23,000 sites are expected to be built. While nearly half will be reserved for public education institutions.

Here’s the breakdown of the 23,100 free Wi-Fi sites once established in 2021:

  • 1804 for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)
  • 5,644 for national and local government offices
  • 3,300 for the government and rural health sectors
  • 1,505 for public areas such as parks
  • 368 for public libraries
  • 179 for transport terminals
  • 10,300 for public education institutions
