As text scam continue to persist in the Philippines, despite measures such as SIM card registration, the prevalence of fraudulent activities via text messaging remains a concerning issue. However, amidst this persistent threat, there is a growing awareness and vigilance among Filipinos regarding how to respond to these deceptive practices.
Recently, I encountered a new text scam that exploits MMDA Traffic Violations to deceive potential victims. Recognizing the potential harm this could cause, particularly to individuals who drive, I felt compelled to raise awareness by sharing the details of this scheme.
Moreover, a variant of the previously reported PHLPOST scam has emerged, this time impersonating LBC Express. In this iteration, recipients receive a message claiming an unsuccessful delivery attempt and are prompted to click on a link for redelivery.
Identifying the suspicious nature of the link and the absence of any pending LBC Express packages in my name, it became evident that this was indeed a scam attempt. Legitimate courier services such as LBC would not typically communicate redelivery notifications through generic phone numbers with embedded links.
As we move further into 2024,it’s crucial to stay alert to new scamming tactics, especially with the holiday season coming up. Let’s prioritize our security and protect ourselves against the increasingly clever schemes used by scammers.
