Have you ever had a song stuck in your head, but you couldn’t remember the words to it? Well, YouTube is working on a test to fix that problem right now!
On its community support page, the video streaming site said that it is testing a new feature where users can look for a song by humming or recording its tune for about three seconds.
Once the song is identified, users will be redirected to relevant official music content, user-generated videos, and/or Shorts in the YouTube app that feature the song you searched for.
At the moment, the test is being given to a small number of Android users around the world. These few people can try out the new tool before YouTube makes it available to everyone else.
Google started a similar service in 2020. Users can click or tap the microphone button on its app and hum the tune of a song to find it. But Google’s service makes people hum for 10 to 15 seconds before it can figure out the tune.
The Shazam app from Apple has a similar feature, but it can only identify a song from a recording, not from the user’s hum.

The YouTube update also talked about other experiments and features that are currently being worked on, like adding Q&A stickers to YouTube shorts on mobile phones and making a “For you” area on the homepage of the channel.
