After originally testing the function on iOS in mid-2021, Twitter revealed this week that it is expanding its test to introduce downvotes to Android, iOS, and Web.
The feature functions as a “dislike” button, allowing users to downvote comments to tweets that they find offensive or irrelevant to the conversation. It’s like flagging content that you don’t want to see. The number of downvotes is not made public but we think that the more downvotes it receives, the less likely it is to appear in the feed.
We learned a lot about the types of replies you don't find relevant and we're expanding this test –– more of you on web and soon iOS and Android will have the option to use reply downvoting.
Downvotes aren’t public, but they'll help inform us of the content people want to see. https://t.co/g8LcTpQqDv pic.twitter.com/wm5MmdR4Xh

Twitter said, “We’ve been testing how we can surface the most relevant replies within Tweets with the use of downvoting on replies. As we’re expanding the experiment to a global audience, we want to share a little about what we have learned thus far!” They also stated that “people who have tested downvoting agree it improves the quality of conversations on Twitter”.
More users should be able to test it on iOS and Android phones.
