Universal Tone for better skin tone accuracy!

TECNO’s latest version of Universal Tone is claimed to enhance inclusivity and skin tone accuracy in a range of contexts and ethnic groups. An improved Multi-Skin Tone Color Restoration Engine and a new multi-skin tone color card with 372 patches are included in the update.

The 372 patches of multi-skin tone color card cover regions such as Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.

According to the brand, this technology helps Universal Tone algorithms by increasing the accuracy of skin tone evaluation and quantification. To illustrate its spectrum, TECNO will present two variations of this card at MWC 2025, one geared toward lighter skin tones and the other toward darker ones.

Additionally, In late 2024, TECNO collaborated with the University of Leeds and Dar Al-Hekma University to create a color card with 186 patches that were suited to the skin tones of Saudi Arabia.

The Multi-Skin Tone Color Restoration Engine now has a Spectrum-Based Automatic White Balance (AWB) Algorithm which corrects color shifts in challenging lighting and an improved CCM Skin Tone Calibration Algorithm which ensures precise color adjustments.

The aforementioned updates are said to boost skin tone accuracy by over 50%, making it produce natural-looking photos. Brightness and tone can also be consistently adjusted even in difficult scenarios with the new Intelligent Skin-Tone Grading Exposure Algorithm.
