Sony to Abandon Smartphone Business

By 2018, Sony Corporation is aspiring for a 25-fold operating profit by focusing its spending on more profitable businesses. This strategy however, implies their exit in the TV and smartphone sectors. In this post we discussed about Sony to Abandon Smartphone Business

During the corporate strategy meeting at Tokyo on Wednesday, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai said it would no longer pursue sales growth in areas such as smartphones where it suffered competition from cheaper Asian rivals as well as industry leaders like Apple and Samsung. The company would instead work on growing its camera sensors, video games and entertainment as recovery from this year’s deemed sixth next loss in seven years.

In their process of restructuring, Sony has gone far as to selling its personal computer division last year. And now it ventures on abandoning the TV business as well and is considering selling smartphones divisions.
