OPPO may have been releasing phones with prices a bit expensive than we’re used to, but it seems like the company hasn’t forgotten its roots. With the introduction of OPPO A72 5G on the market, consumers are getting a 5G mid-range phone with well-balanced specs. The price is CNY 1899(~P13,300) for the 8GB/128GB model, with official sales starting on July 31.
Not to be confused with the OPPO A72 4G launched last April, the 5G model comes with some upgrades and some downgrades. For starters, the 6.5″ FHD+ IPS LCD now supports 90Hz instead of 60Hz. The chipset — Dimensity 720 — allows for 5G connectivity over sub-6GHz and a bit more performance headroom than the Snapdragon 665. Also, the A72 5G is available in three colors — black, purple-ish hue, and a two-toned blue/red gradient.
Now for the downgrades. The battery gets a significant cut, now with 4040mAh (previously 5000mAh). However, charging speed is the same at 18W via USB-C. As for the cameras, the 48MP quad-cam is now 16MP triple-cam alongside 8MP selfie. But for the rest, we’re still looking at Dirac 2.0 sound speaker, headphone jack, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Android 10 with ColorOS 7.2 skin.
