With the push of the 90Hz refresh rate to budget phones, it appears that 60Hz is about to become obsolete soon (or rather, 90Hz phones are about to get cheaper). And, the latest indication is the announcement of OPPO A53 with a starting price of ₹12,990(≈Php8,500) for the 4GB/64GB base model. The top variant with 6GB/128GB only costs ₹15,490(≈Php10,100). Available in Electric Black, Fairy White, and Fancy Blue colors, OPPO A53 is on sale already via India’s Flipkart.
Clearly, the A53 is all about making 90Hz affordable to masses. Even with the faster screen, the phone is still using IPS LCD with a mere 720p+ resolution. On top of that, the 6.5″ screen size won’t make the quality any sharper. To be fair though, OPPO did bring the newer Snapdragon 460, albeit underpowered than most of its MediaTek counterparts. The battery is large, at 5000mAh, and supports 18W USB-C fast charging. As for the cameras, it’s a budget orientation featuring 13MP main sensor, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth. The selfie, on the other end, is using 16MP.
It’s easy to be impressed with the combo of fast refresh rate and low price tag here, but — to get that really smooth and fast screen experience, the phone needs to pack enough power and, the software needs to be polished. However, we still can’t deny the fact that this is the cheapest way of experiencing 90Hz on a phone.
