OnePlus 8 to Cost a Lot More Due to Wireless Charging

OnePlus Now a Member of Wireless Power Consortium

The six-year-old Chinese company is well-known for flagship phones that can easily undercut its competition in terms of monetary value. For less, you can get an equally (sometimes better) performing device with a premium build and excellent cameras. However, one reason the company is able to maintain less expensive price tags than the rest is the lack of some features, specifically wireless charging. For the past two years, OnePlus has always skipped out this feature due to two reasons — it’s slower than wired fast charging and it adds a few bucks on top of the phone’s price tag.

This time, however, seems to be different. OnePlus 8 is going to be released a few months from now. As spotted by CNET, the company is now a member of Wireless Power Consortium, a company that promotes standard Qi-charging across the world. While no one knows (except for OnePlus) when the company joined the group, it gives us enough reason to expect wireless charging from its upcoming device. We can also expect the price to be more expensive, of course. To provide context, OnePlus 7T Pro costs P42,990 in the Philippines.
