MediaTek recently unveiled its new processor with built-in AI for Chromebooks—the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910.
The MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 processor is claimed to power the ‘highest performing Chromebooks’ yet, while bringing all-day battery life.
The chip incorporates an all-big-core design with 1x 3.62GHz Cortex-X925, 3x Cortes-X4, and 4x Cortex-A720 cores. It is built on the Armv9.2 architecture, supports LPDDR5X-8533 memory, and comes in a 3nm process from TSMC.
Moreover, it has an 11-core Immortalis-G925 MC11 GPU with Ray Tracing and an 8th-gen tech NPU from MediaTek with up to 50 TOPS of power for AI tasks.
TSMC’s 3nm process, along with large on-chip caches and MediaTek’s efficient power management, boosts performance per watt. This enables sleek, fanless Chromebook designs that stay cool and operate quietly.
For performance, the firm compares the Ultra 910 to the Core Ultra 5 125U, claiming up to 18% faster single-threaded performance and 50% longer battery life. For multi-threaded workloads, it delivers up to 40% faster CPU performance and 30% better battery efficiency.
Meanwhile, MediaTek’s NPU, optimized for Chromebook AI features, delivers up to 50 TOPS, enabling fast, efficient on-device AI tasks like image and video generation. It supports generative AI models and offloads work from the CPU and GPU. The 11-core G925 GPU offers 40% faster peak performance, improves ray tracing with realistic effects like vegetation and hair, and runs Minecraft 250% faster, hitting 292 FPS in GFXBench Manhattan 3.0 versus Intel’s 207.
Additionally, the Kompanio Ultra 910 SoC supports up to three 4K displays (one internal, two external via DP MST) for enhanced multitasking and gaming. A dedicated Hi-Fi audio DSP boosts sound quality and voice assistant responsiveness while saving power. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7 with speeds up to 7.3 Gbps and Bluetooth 6.0 with a dual BT engine.
Chromebooks with the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 processor are expected to be released in the coming months.
