Huawei to launch a smartphone with a screen on the back

As we wait for the official release of the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, the Chinese company looks to be also focusing on a smartphone with a screen on the back.

Huawei continues to actively innovate their smartphones despite the crisis it’s facing against the US government. According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office and World Intellectual Property Office, a phone described with an “extra display” on the back was filed November 28 last year.

We have seen a similar implementation last year with the Nubia X; covering almost the entire back of the phone. This time, however, only half of the back gets used as a secondary screen. If the Nubia X is any indication, expect the same functionalities like notification display and a viewfinder for “selfies”.

Other details include a notched display due to the ToF sensor needed for face unlock. And a periscope module found on the back which could ultimately use the latest 10x lossless zoom sensor.

We should learn more about the phone in the following months as Huawei prepares for the arrival of Huawei P30 series, come March 26.
