What to Know About Importing Bookmarks With Chrome

You can immediately import bookmarks from most major online browsers, including Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Internet Explorer, into Chrome’s desktop edition. However, for this approach to function, the browser must be installed on your device at the time of import. If you use a different browser or have the browser installed on a separate device, export your bookmarks to an HTML file and then import that HTML file into Chrome, as shown below.

You cannot import bookmarks when using Chrome on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Instead, add bookmarks to Chrome on your desktop and then sync them with Chrome on your phone or tablet. This will be explained more below.

If you already have bookmarks in Chrome, your imported bookmarks will be saved in a new folder named “Imported,” and if your bookmarks bar is empty, the imported bookmarks will be added to it.

Add Bookmarks From Other Web Browsers in Chrome

Use this approach to directly collect bookmarks from other installed web browsers with Chrome.
Begin by opening Chrome on your desktop. Click the three dots in Chrome’s upper-right corner.

In the three-dots menu, select Bookmarks > Import Bookmarks and Settings.

You will see a popup titled “Import Bookmarks and Settings.” Using the drop-down box, pick the browser from which you wish to import bookmarks. Select “Favorites/Bookmarks” from the list.

Then, select “Import.”

Chrome will import your bookmarks from the web browser you’ve chosen. When you do this, a success message will show on your screen. Close the box by clicking “Done” in this box.

Import Bookmarks Into Chrome on Mobile

Because bookmarks cannot be imported into Chrome on iPhone, iPad, or Android, add them to Chrome’s desktop version or another mobile device and then sync them. Check that you’re using the same Google account in both cases.

Launch Chrome on your phone to sync the bookmarks. Tap the three dots in Chrome’s upper-right corner.

9 13

In the three-dots menu, tap “Settings.”

10 13

On the “Settings” page, select “Sync.”

11 11

Enable the “Sync Everything” option to sync all of your Google account information, including bookmarks. If you simply want to sync your bookmarks, uncheck “Sync Everything” and check “Bookmarks.”

When the sync is complete, all of your Chrome desktop bookmarks will appear in Chrome on your mobile phone. Take advantage of rapid access to your favorite websites!
