In an interview last week, Victor Genuino, the President and CEO of ePLDT, said that building would start after the 11th data center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, was finished in 2024.

He didn’t say where the spot would be, only that it would be on the island of Luzon.

“Our 11th data center will open in 2024, and we expect it to be full within a few years, so we’ll have to start building soon after,” Genuino said.

“We have no definite timetable yet, but we need to secure the land first, and make sure that the design is all right soon after,” he said.

“I think it is going to be in Luzon because our main data center hubs are in Luzon already, so that the connectivity is nearby.”

The center will have the same amount of power as its 11th data center, which is around 100 megawatts. Construction will start right away because the amount of data being used is going up and isn’t likely to stop any time soon.

Genuino said that because people are using more data and artificial intelligence is getting better, the company needs to get ready for the apps that both customers and businesses will be using.

On Monday, the price of PLDT shares went up by PHP29 to PHP1,304.
