Google is working to prepare for the massive online orders that will be placed left and right during the upcoming holiday shopping season. Today, the business unveiled a convenient tool for users of Gmail which is parcel tracking.
This isn’t the kind of “package tracking” that provides a link and directs you to the company delivering the products’ website. No, you are tracking directly from your inbox.
This feature will be implemented by “most major US shipping carriers” “in the coming weeks.” In order for Google to check for updates on your behalf, it needs your express approval to do so. As soon as it reaches your device, you’ll see a dialog at the top of your inbox asking you to allow tracking to work.
If you accept, the expected arrival date for packages will appear just beneath the message’s title in your inbox, and the tracking information will be prominently displayed at the top of emails after you open them. You’ll receive updates along the lines of “label developed,” “arriving tomorrow,” or “delivered today.”
In order to ensure that you don’t miss anything, Gmail will also “in the coming months” proactively display a delay label for delayed items and move the email associated with it to the top of your inbox.
