DICT Confirms Hacking Incident at Testing Site

In a recent incident, it was reported that the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) website, http://www.dict.gov.ph, was allegedly under a hacking threat.

However, the DICT’s spokesperson, Renato Paraiso, clarified that the main website remained secure.

The DICT website was not hacked although we would confirm that one particular site was infiltrated,” Paraiso told reporters.

According to Paraiso, the hacking attempt was focused on a specific section of the DICT online, namely, the ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB).

This isolated subsection, separate from the main website, was the target of the intrusion.

According to DICT Undersecretary Jeffrey Dy (via CNN Philippines), the obscure website that was hacked had “pre-determined vulnerabilities.

It was a testing site used by developers to check system weaknesses and didn’t store sensitive data.

The DICT is investigating the breach and improving its security measures. They will also enhance the security of other government systems.

This incident occurred after a series of cyberattacks on government agencies.
