DICT Chief Advises Corporations to Invest in Cybersecurity

Invest in Cybersecurity

A Cabinet official said on Tuesday that business groups should put money into building a skilled cybersecurity staff to deal with cybersecurity problems.

DICT Secretary Dennis Uy said that business owners and leaders should make it a top priority to improve the security of their own information systems.

He also said that, even though the task groups all worry about cybersecurity risks the same amount, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development estimated that cybersecurity breaches cost the world about $3 trillion.

Uy said that the DICT wants to improve local cybersecurity by using education, training, and other efforts to build up the talent and skills of the local workforce.

The National Computer Emergency Response Team of the DICT recently said that there were 50,000 cyberthreats and 5,000 events that had been fixed.

Uy also said that they have seen trends of cybercriminals working together, sharing technologies and information, and taking advantage of economies of scale to make a business out of scamming people with ransomware.
