CD Projekt Red’s stolen has already been auctioned and sold to an unknown buyer. This information was confirmed by Kela, a cybersecurity company, and the auction was done on Exploit, an infamous forum where hackers usually come together. The auction was done when the suspected hackers received an offer from outside the Exploit forum. After confirming the transaction, the auction was then requested to come to a close by the buyer which was done immediately.
The cyberattack was done on Tuesday and CDPR gave a statement to their followers stating what happened. They even stated that they would not bend and lean on the hacker’s demands. Although refusing from the demands of the hackers, this might result in a widespread circulation of data from the company into the worldwide web. This would include source codes from CDPR’s games such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The estimated worth of auctioned data was about $1 million but other cybersecurity sources claim that it might even be larger at about $7 million of stolen data.
The identity of the buyer is yet to be discovered. On the other hand, the culprit’s identity would be made known any time soon. It was also then found out that the attackers didn’t use the HelloKitty ransomware, a software recently used by hackers with a number of websites.
