BOE unveils flexible N-shaped OLED screen

BOE announced an innovative technology for folding screens. Going beyond the rollable OLED display and screens that can be efficiently folded to either side, the manufacturer has created an “N-shaped” flexible OLED panel. The display supports inward and outward folding on a single screen.

BOE’s foldable N-shaped screen prototype comes with a flexible AMOLED display with an original size of 12.3 inches. It can transform into a 5.6-inch, 2 cm thick portable panel.

When fully unfolded, the flexible display can be used as a wide entertainment and work platform. Its size also supports multiple application windows.

The “N” shape also allows convenient positions for a variety of purposes. The flexible display can easily be transformed into a vertical video conferencing and calling platform.

BOE said the product uses the company’s self-developed sliding compensation hinge system. This approach greatly improves the strength of the display module.

Based on the satisfaction of small bendable radii, the module ensures the reliability of the screen during inward and outward bending movement. The manufacturer also said it has introduced improvements to control the way the rotary axis bends.

The “N”-shaped folding flexible screen can be folded 200,000 times inwards and 100,000 times outwards.
