BMW is stepping up its game in the market for electric vehicles (EVs) by putting a new focus on making things in a more environmentally friendly way and creating jobs. The luxury car recently started building a warehouse for batteries on its campus in Leipzig, Germany. This shows how committed it is to the EV industry and to being good to the environment.
This new building will be important for making the new Mini Countryman from BMW. The building has a solar array on the roof that can produce more than 3,000 kilowatts and aims to plant more than 5,700 new shrubs and trees. The goal is to keep the carbon footprint as small as possible, which is in line with BMW’s larger goals for sustainability.
Growth in jobs is another important factor. When the plant is fully up and running, it will create about 500 new jobs in the Leipzig area. This will give the local economy a big boost.
The building should be mostly done by the middle of 2024. It will hold high-voltage battery parts for BMW’s electric cars. This project is part of BMW’s big plan to have a third of its cars run on electricity by 2026.
