After Uber faded in the background, Grab has maintained its position as the most popular ride-hailing app in the Philippines. Months later, Angkas, a similar app-based transportation platform gained traction. By 2020, the competition is expected to heat up as Arcade City, the American transportation company, is about to enter the local market once again.
Arcade City said, “Though our new version 4 mobile app will be available worldwide on January 1st, we will be making a special push into the Philippines for both car and motorbike transportation.” Unlike the two available apps in the country, Arcade City focuses on a “peer-to-peer” connection wherein the drivers and passengers can negotiate the fare. According to the company, both car and motorcycle drivers will get to keep 100 percent of the fare.
This is not the first time we’re hearing about the ride-booking company. It already launched back in 2017 (after Uber was ordered to suspend operations) but was halted by (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) LTFRB. Metro Manila and Cebu were the first two locations to be supported.
