After more than two decades on the market, Apple on Tuesday announced that it is discontinuing one of its most popular and iconic devices, the iPod. The company said in a blog post that the current generation of iPods, the iPod touch, will only be available as long as current supplies last.
Late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs introduced the original iPod nearly 21 years ago in October 2001. The device can contain thousands of songs, all in your pocket.
After that, the iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod touch, and iPod shuffle were among the numerous variants of the iPod that would follow. All of these were discontinued, making the iPod touch the last variant to be ended.
Apple iPod Touch (2019)
“Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“Today, the experience of taking one’s music library out into the world has been integrated across Apple’s product line – from iPhone and Apple Watch to iPad and Mac.”
Again, the iPod Touch in 2019 will remain available to buy as long as current supplies last.
