
In select regions, Samsung introduced its highly anticipated Galaxy S22 series of smartphones powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2200 chipset. The chip generated a lot of hype ahead of the launch of the AMD GPUs. The Exynos 2200, however, failed to meet customers’ performance expectations when it finally hit the market.
In addition to manufacturing Exynos chips for Samsung’s smartphones, the company sells them to competitors like Google and Xiaomi. The company, however, is expected to soon design chips exclusively for its smartphones like Apple.
Around 2025, the revamped chips are expected to be available. As part of Samsung’s efforts, Kim Woo-pyeong, an ex-Apple employee, has been appointed director of the newly established Packaging Solution Center in Device Solution America’s headquarters. After working at Texas Instruments and Qualcomm, Kim Woo-pyeong joined Apple in 2014 and worked there for nine years.
It is not explicitly mentioned in the Business Korea report that Kim Woo-pyeong will work on the Exynos mobile chipset. Still, it does say packaging technologies that chip makers use to address integration challenges.
