After losing its franchise in 2020, ABS-CBN is not without hope: a recently filed House Bill seeks to grant it a new franchise. Rep. Johnny Pimentel, a congressman from Surigao del Norte’s 2nd District, introduced House Bill 431 to allow ABS-CBN to operate again.
“The news and public affairs program of ABS-CBN serves as the only avenue for crucial and relevant information for a significant number of our countrymen. It is the source of information in the most far-flung areas of our country, keeping its far-reaches up-to-date with the relevant happenings,” — Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel.
Since ABS-CBN’s Regional Stations were shut down due to NTC’s Cease and Desist Order on May 5, 2020, far-flung areas have barely been updated on relevant news, especially with calamities. ABS-CBN has been absent for the past two years.
The absence of ABS-CBN coverage of typhoons and calamities was further corroborate. By former vice president Leni Robredo back in December 2021. When victims of Typhoon Odette sought assistance and help from the organization.
ABS-CBN has recently partnered with Mediaquest, the operator of TV5, and it is unknown if they will receive a new franchise. With the latter’s free television channel, TV5, as the leading platform, the two TV giants will combine their power and resources and their companies’ structures.

One of the important matter that needs to be investigated by the authorities is how did ABS-CBN acquire the former JUSMAG site that is a government property that now houses their company installations/facilities based on the land title that they have presented during the controversial congressional hearing on the disenfranchisement as a broadcast entity for numerous infringes committed.

i cannot call a dumb dumber. your bill is nothing until the issues and concerns of the previous congress with regards to it’s denial of franchise of ABS is cleanly settled to the satisfaction of ka Dante and the Filipinos as a whole

Louie Asuncion says:
Rep Johnny Pimentel should be included in the investigation why he wants ABSCBN for a new franchise despite of the violations committed by the said network.

Follow first the Rule of Law. Violations of ABS-CBN must be punished or fined. There is no easy way they can get a franchise right away because some congressman just sponsor a bill. What about the case of ABS-CBN against the illegal termination of their employees still not yet resolved to DOLE, multiple violations for tax fraud, undeclared measurement of its properties to lessen tax, etc……
Your all just concerns for the program and entertainment. How about the malicious news, selected news and fake news they propagate? How about the teleserye they introduce adultery, violence, and any forms of anti government and pro communist soap operas?
I am not against for them to get a franchise but they must obliged to follow the law, create and shape a better society. Franchise granted by law is a privilege and not a forever right. It can be revoked and disenfranchised by the government.

Thank goodness!!! I hope Marcoleta stops being a crybaby about it. It’s the only channel we trust and love to watch as a family!
I grew up in Saudi Arabia and then transferred in the UAE. So, since I was young and living abroad, I’ve been an avid viewer and fan of ABS-CBN! From Epol Apple, Hiraya Manawari, Wansapantaym, Goin Bulilit, Maalaala Mo Kaya, Home Along series, Cinema One, PBO, Christmas ID, GGV, Tonight With Boy Abunda, Bandila, Star Cinema movies and more.
It was very heartbreaking in 2020 when they signed off… The whole pandemic felt really empty, and lonelier without them! It felt like my parents got divorced!! So cruel! The quality of their productions, as a Filipino, I’m really content and happy with it. I miss all the Kapamilya stars na nakabalandra everywhere in the country! I’m looking forward for the success of this bill!! God bless everyone who’ll fight for this! And I hope all their former employees comes back too!!

I felt the same way you do. I was in Saudi for 31 yrs and all throughout my stay I became a subscriber of TFC the first month it was introduced. I paid just to watch the tv station while others in our country where viewing the same programs was for free and yet they were the ones whose objection to the station was overwhelming.

Oh! And TV Patrol, of course! Forgot to add that. Maybe because we’re still watching it, but on YouTube now.
