24/7 Complaint Center for DICT SIM Registration

The SIM Registration, which began on December 27, was greatly criticized because users needed access to the registration portals for their telcos. The telcos then said the system was overloaded because many people wanted to register their SIMs on the first day.

Along with the new law, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has opened a SIM Registration Complaint Center that is open 24/7. This will give Filipinos a place to report problems with SIM card registration and make suggestions on how to make the process better.

Anna Mae Y. Lamentillo, a spokesperson for the DICT and an undersecretary, said that the first two weeks of SIM registration are a test period.  As public telecommunications entities (PTEs) fine-tune their processes, technical problems and glitches will likely happen here.

Lamentillo also said that DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy wants the SIM registration to be done “as soon as possible, within 180 days.” The head of DICT is said to have also said that he wants the process to go “as smoothly as possible.” Because of this, a 24/7 complaint center has been set up so any problems can be “taken care of right away.”

The SIM Registration Complaint Center will be run by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC), which is part of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT).
